I can paint things.

Ever since I moved into my apartment (almost a year ago) I’ve been looking for a new dresser. I wanted something more longish than tallish with two rows of drawers… and I didn’t want to spend a lot because I’m cheap.

A few months ago, on a routine visit to Savers, I stumbled across the perfect dresser. It needed some love, but for $10 how could I complain? And, after a friendly conversation and a few smiles with Mr. Savers, I walked away with this guy for $8. Let’s do the math—that’s a $2 savings! Score? Score!

In my excitement to refinish my new find, I forgot to take a proper “before” picture so this is a picture of it after I already started sanding it. Basically the paint was chipping off, the handles were gross, there were far more gold details than I wanted (like weird swirls along the sides) and the top drawers were missing a knob (they’re supposed to have two knobs on each drawer but I just filled in the holes and drilled a new hole in the middle. So… I’ve got an extra knob if someone wants one!).

Ew, gross!

Oh, hooray!

I could have posted this little makeover a long time ago but… I’m kind of a nerd and it took me awhile to “style” the top of the dresser. I think my favorite part of this whole thing is that I finally found a good use for the glass globe that my mom gave me from my Grandma’s antique store. I put earrings that I never wear in it! I also framed a print that I bought at a flea market in Vienna with an old picture frame that I got from my other Grandma. I think it’s only appropriate that both of my Grandma’s are represented here because I always say that I decorate like one.
That’s all… I painted a dresser. Accomplishment!

Q! Absolutely! My apartment is very small but my couch is a hide-a-bed… facing a window that looks straight into my neighbor’s bedroom… It’s got your name on it! Oh, and just to warn you, there’s a hoarder lady living in the attic of our building… she seems nice though. When can you move in?

Kelly – This makes me wanna see all of your apartment. So, I think you should give a little photo tour :) Yes, please.

C! I’m trying. But… like I said above… I’m a nerd and everything has to be “perfect” before I give the world a tour. I still have so many things I wanna get! A headboard for my bed, a new desk, a rug, some living room things… it’s a process. And then, of course, once I have one thing done, I immediately want to change it again. Ha! But… eventually… I’ll post pictures of the whole thing.
